Today, 31, Parque das Aves will host another edition of the Halloween of the Birds, an event that is already tradition in its festive calendar. In a partnership between the Animal Welfare Division and the Department of Environmental Education, the action aims to offer visitors the opportunity to participate in activities, learning about animal welfare and its importance for the birds that inhabit the park. The activities will take place in the Environmental Education Space, that will also host a workshop for the preparation of environmental enrichment items, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
“Track monitors and environmental educators will work together to welcome visitors on Wednesday and talk about the routine of the birds that inhabit Parque das Aves and the work that is done so they have a high degree of well-being,” he comments. Camila Martins, coordinator of the Department of Environmental Education.
At the exhibition, visitors can learn a little about animal welfare and see up close environmental enrichment items used in the aviaries, as well as their importance for each species and individual. In this way, visitors will have the possibility to know more about animal welfare and how environmental enrichment is worked in a strictly technical way at Parque das Aves.
Besides, visitors will also be able to make a Halloween themed enrichment item in the Environmental Education Space, and then follow the installation of the objects in the enclosures, which will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The importance of environmental enrichment
Environmental enrichment is not an activity held only on holidays. The practice occurs daily at Parque das Aves and provides a high degree of physical and psychological well-being to animals. The difference is that on holidays such as Christmas, Easter and Halloween, the items offered are themed.
“These dates have already become official in our calendar because they are a great way to engage visitors with the daily care directed to the welfare of the animals that live in Parque das Aves,” says Paloma Bosso, technical director of the attraction.
Parque das Aves has always been concerned with the life quality of the animals under its care, focusing its work on animal welfare. “An animal has a good degree of well-being if it is well-nourished, healthy physically and mentally, in a suitable environment, where it can express natural behaviors,” says Paloma.
Everybody is invited to participate in the activities, that only require the purchase of the entrance ticket.
